San Juan del Sur
San Juan del Sur is the main tourist destination on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua for both international and national visitors. There are approximately 18,000 people living in San Juan del Sur which includes a steadily growing ex-patriot community. At one time most of the locals subsided on fishing but many of them are now switching over to more lucrative tourism related services. The bay of San Juan del Sur is home to a newly rebuilt port that was constructed by the Japanese and to a variety of small fishing boats, sail boats, yachts, and occasionally a cruise ship. There is a long sandy beach stretching from one end of the bay to the other which is bordered by a variety of beach front bars and restaurants which are the perfect spot to enjoy a famous San Juan del Sur sunset. Despite the growth in tourism and foreign investment, relaxing is still a priority here and San Juan del Sur remains a relatively tranquil beach town with a laid back pace and a casual style.
